In truth, those who seek it are very careful and bring along plenty of help, and they make sure that the thankful villagers pay well for services rendered. Comely daughters, handsome sons, and generous grants of livestock are part of the standard deal, as are land, titles, and inheritances from the local lords. A dragonslayer who survives to retire can live like a king, or even as one.
